When entering Vietnam, depending on the period of residence, foreigners will be granted a Vietnam temporary residence card by the immigration management agency or the foreign-based diplomatic missions under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The duration of the temporary residence card Vietnam is from 2 to 10 years. However, according to regulations, this period must be at least 30 days shorter than the remaining validity of the passport. Once granted the Vietnam temporary residence card, foreigners can enter and exit many times according to the duration of the temporary residence card without having to go through the procedures of applying for an entry visa.
To be granted a temporary residence card in Vietnam, a foreigner must meet the following conditions:
- The purpose of entry is in accordance with the provisions of Vietnamese law.
- Not subject to temporary exit suspension.
- The passport must be valid for at least 13 months (If the passport is valid for 13 months, the Immigration Agency will issue a temporary residence card for foreigners with a maximum validity of 12 months). - Foreigners must complete procedures for temporary residence registration at commune or ward police offices or register online in accordance with Vietnamese law.
Foreigners will not be granted a temporary residence card if they fall into the following cases:
- Foreigners who are being prosecuted for criminal liability, civil, economic and labor disputes;
- Foreigners who are in the process of executing criminal, civil or economic judgments;
- Foreigners are serving and complying with decisions on sanctioning administrative violations, tax obligations, and other financial obligations.

Step 1: Preparing documents

Step 3: Get the result and pay the fee
On the date indicated on the receipt note, the applicant for the temporary residence card will bring the receipt note, ID card/Citizen ID Card, or passport to present to the officer to check the identity of the applicant.
