Types of business visas

Business visa for Vietnam, also known as commercial Visa (DN Visa Vietnam), is denoted as DN1 and DN2, respectively, for the following subjects:

• Visa DN1 is granted to foreigners entering Vietnam to work, invest, do business, and sign contracts with enterprises and organizations with legal status according to the provisions of Vietnamese law.
• Visa DN2 is granted to foreigners entering Vietnam to offer services, establish a commercial presence, and perform other activities under international treaties to which Vietnam is a member.

Currently, Vietnam business visa is divided into 4 basic types based on time and number of entries as follows:

• 1-month Visa, single entry.
• 1-month Visa, multiple entry.
• 3-month Visa, single entry.
• 3-month Visa, multiple entry.

Conditions for applying for a business visa for foreigners in Vietnam

To be granted a business visa for Vietnam, foreigners need to fully meet the following conditions:

• Foreigners are not prohibited from entering Vietnam.
• Passport valid for at least 6 months from the expected date of entry into Vietnam and having at least 02 blank pages.
• Having a sponsoring company that is active and legally operating in Vietnam.

In addition, in some special cases, when applying for a DN Visa Vietnam for foreigners, it is also necessary to submit documents proving the purpose of entry.

Dossier to apply for a business visa to Vietnam

Documents prepared by the sponsoring company include

• A notarized copy of Enterprise Registration Certificate (Incorporation Certificate) of a sponsoring company;
• Written request for entry approval for foreigners (Form NA2).
• Letter of introduction with signature and seal of the authorized representative at the sponsoring company.
• Work schedule of foreigners at organizations and enterprises.
• Letter of Introduction.

• Passport valid for at least 6 months from the expected date of entry.
• Work Permit or Work Permit Exemption.

Details of the business visa application process in Vietnam

Step 1: The sponsoring company needs to submit a set of documents to apply for a Business Visa for foreigners at the Immigration Department where the head office is located.

Step 2: Within 05 working days from receipt of full and valid documents, the Immigration Department will review the application for visa approval for foreigners. If the application is approved, the Immigration Department will issue an entry letter to the business and send a notice to the Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate or the international border gate where the foreigner is granted a visa.

Step 3: The sponsoring company sends entry approval to foreigners and checks relevant information for foreigners to apply for business visas at international airports or foreign-based Vietnam diplomatic missions.

Term of business/work visa in Vietnam

According to the provisions of Law No. 51/2019/QH14, business visas granted to foreigners will be valid for no more than 12 months.

Note: For foreigners’ passports or other valid international travel documents with a validity of fewer than 12 months. Business visas will be issued with a duration shorter than the validity of a Passport or international travel document by at least 30 days.

The filing fee for a business visa in Vietnam

Foreigners who wish to carry out procedures to apply for/extend a business visa in Vietnam need to pay a filing fee to the Immigration Agency or the diplomatic mission of Vietnam abroad.
